Augusta celebrates the 800th anniversary of its founding by Frederick II with four days of events, from 5 to 8 November 2026, centred on the figure of Frederick II of Swabia and the city that received its title from him. The programme is entitled VIII Centenary of the Foundation of the City of Augusta, 13th-21st century. The opening is on Thursday 5 November in the "Rocco Chinnici" Reception Hall, with institutional greetings, the reading of the Foundation Diploma accompanied by medieval Celtic harp music and the presentation of the commemorative logo. This is followed by the inauguration of the exhibition on the historical re-enactment of the Medieval Procession, open on 6, 7 and 8 November. On the following days the programme offers the display of medieval relics found in the excavations of the Swabian Castle, the meeting at the Municipal Library on Frederick II and the city, the guided tour of the exhibition and, on Sunday 8 November in Piazza Duomo, the Festival at the Emperor's Court with falconers, travelling musicians, string puppets and circus jesters. The initiative is promoted by the Municipality of Augusta, Department of Culture, Traditions and Promotion of the Territory, with the patronage of the Ministry of Culture.
