The Festa del Contadino returns to enliven Pennisi, the hilly hamlet of Acireale, for two weekends in September. Born to celebrate the rural culture and ancient agricultural traditions of the area, the event transforms the square into a lively peasant village. Among the stalls, you can taste freshly made grape mostarda, cooked wine, ricotta, and mustazzoli prepared in the square. There are also maccheronate with sauce and alla norma, grilled sausage, seasoned bread, and local fruit. Grape stomping, exhibitions of agricultural tools, and folk music tell the deep connection with the land. Sunday is the time for the grand peasant lunch, a convivial event that brings together residents and visitors around the authentic flavors of tradition, with the involvement of the parish and local organizations.
